Requirements to rent a car in Colombia

To rent a car on Rodii you need to be over 18, hold a current driver's licence (Colombian or foreign), have an ID document (Colombian ID card, foreigner ID card or passport) and a registered payment method. Identity and licence verification is done online, with a face scan, only once, before your first booking.

1. Minimum age
Rodii is only for people over 18 with full legal capacity to enter into contracts under Colombian law. Minors cannot create an account or book a vehicle.
2. Driver's licence
You need a current driver's licence in the category that matches the vehicle you book. With a Colombian licence, private cars, SUVs and pickups require category B1.
If you are a foreigner you can rent with your home country's current licence: you add it in the same online verification, together with your passport or foreigner ID card.
The licence is checked online during identity verification. An expired licence, or one of a different category, does not meet the conditions to drive a car booked on Rodii.
3. ID document
When you sign up you provide your full name and an ID number: Colombian ID card, foreigner ID card or passport. We also ask for an email address and a mobile number, which is verified with a code.
4. Online identity verification
Before your first booking you verify your identity and licence from your phone: you photograph your ID and your licence, and the camera scans your face to confirm you are the person on the document. It's fully digital and takes a few minutes.
Verification is done only once. You don't need to repeat it for later bookings.
5. Payment and deposit
Payment goes through the platform with the method you register. Before confirming you see the full price of the booking — no surprise charges at pickup.
Each listing sets its own refundable deposit, and the amount is shown on the car's page before booking. The deposit is released once the car is confirmed to have been returned in the agreed condition.
6. What is already included
- Active SURA insurance coverage on every booking, with no extra steps on your side.
- Valid SOAT (mandatory insurance) and technical inspection: these are the owner's responsibility, and the vehicle documents are reviewed before it is listed.
- Owners with verified identity.
7. On pickup day
When you receive the car you check in from the app: you confirm your identity with a selfie, take 5 photos of the vehicle's condition and generate a code that the owner validates. Those photos are the record of the condition you received the car in.
You go through the same check-out process when you return it.
8. During the rental and on return
- Return it with the same fuel level you received it with. Missing regular gasoline is charged at $22,000 COP per gallon.
- Return it at the agreed time. A delay of up to 1 hour has a fee of $50,000 COP plus VAT; from the second hour on, $100,000 COP per additional hour.
- Fines, traffic tickets and tolls incurred during the booking are paid by the driver.
- No smoking inside the vehicle unless the owner expressly allows it.
9. If you need to cancel
Cancel more than 48 hours ahead and you get a 100% refund. Between 24 and 48 hours ahead, 50%. Under 24 hours, no refund.
